Fundraising troubles could just keep swallowing politicians like it's a black hole.

I normally don't like to work holidays, but Monday was a big exception, thank you Cheney Mason and Jim Greer! Mason held a news conference over the holiday to talk about Greer's case. I was asked why would he do that? The simple answer is that up until this point, no one has been out in the media talking about Greer's innocence. We've talked about the credit card spending, the dummy company Victory Strategies, Greer's arrest, and the 50 plus minute phone call secretly recorded between Greer and RPOF number 2 man Delmar Johnson. It was time for someone to point the discussion in a different direction, so enter Cheney Mason.

Mason did a fine job of redirecting the discussion to Bill McCollum, Charlie Crist and more. This much is apparent: The current GOP is messing with somebody who has no problem trying to take them down with him, and is not scared to fire back. I wonder how much of the political implications of all this were fully hashed out before the state GOP decided to go public with as much as they did, and then to toss Greer under the bus in such a rough fashion. Mason's strategy is simple. Put the big boys on notice that he and Greer are coming after them.

I learned Monday that there will be lots of public pressure on Bill McCollum to give his deposition before the August primary. Mason has no interest in helping Rick Scott win the primary and make the finals to be in the Governor's mansion, but he has no choice in the matter. Anytime McCollum has a campaign event scheduled, it will be a chance for both Mason and Rick Scott to ask loudly and publicly, "Why is he not giving his sworn statement right now?". I also learned that any information in depositions or evidence related to other wrongdoing at the Republican Party of Florida is coming out. Mason convinced me of that when he admitted there were men only parties in Tallahassee. That portion of a statement from a former RPOF employee made its way into the evidence, but has nothing to do with the criminal charges against Greer. Get ready for a rough ride politicos!
