A message from Congresswoman Karen Thurman

For the past few weeks Floridians from all over the state have been coming together to fulfill the promise of change we voted for last November by helping the President pass real health care reform.

We have great Democratic leaders that are already fighting for health care reform, but like the 2008 campaign we also have thousands of people like you working in their own neighborhoods to spread the message about how we need health care reform now.

As Florida Democrats our work for change didn't stop last November - with the need to change Tallahassee and the need. Your help over the last few months has shown that I know we can do it.

Florida's families and small businesses are being crushed by sky-rocketing health care costs, and we are losing the choices we value most. Forty-five million Americans don't have health insurance.  In Florida, nearly 21 percent of our friends and neighbors lack insurance, making Florida 48^th in the nation with only Texas and New Mexico having a higher percent of uninsured residents. Families' benefits are eroding because they can't keep up with higher premiums, co-pays and deductibles. Seniors are choosing to cut their medications in half due to the high cost of prescription drugs.  And parents are skipping a doctor's visit for their children because it's just too expensive. That's why President Obama needs your help.

After visiting Florida a couple weeks ago, DNC Chairman Tim Kaine recorded a special video update for you on the ongoing campaign to pass real health care reform.

As a member of Congress I worked on health care reform for years and I know how important it is for the people to get involved and make sure that all our leaders know that we need work with President Obama to pass real health care reform.

So, while Congress works on the details of legislation, people like you across the country are organizing to build support for comprehensive reform that will reduce rising health care costs for families, businesses and government; allows all patients choice in their own coverage and their own doctor; and ensures that quality, affordable health care is available to all Americans.
